Bank of American Chicago Marathon
Join hundreds of spectators in Chinatown to help cheer on the 40,000 runners who will be participating in the 2016 Bank of American Chicago Marathon on Sunday, October 9, 2016. This year a press conference was held in Chinatown with Race Director Carey Pinkowski and Consul General Hong Lei of the People’s Republic of China of Chicago announcing there will be a record 555 runners traveling from China to participate in this year’s race.
As one of the 29 neighborhoods on the Marathon route, Chinatown is one of the runners' favorite spots. They will be greeted with festive activities at the Chinatown Gateway at the intersection of Cermak and Wentworth which is located at approximately Mile 21.6. The Chamber will also have a Cheering station at 22nd Place and Wentworth. Stop by and say Hello! Chinatown is easily accessible via the CTA Red and Green transit lines. You can also take the Chicago Water Taxi to Ping Tom Memorial Park which is a short walk to the Marathon Route. For more information about the Marathon visit https://www.chicagomarathon.com.
On September 21st, concierges from across the Chicagoland area participated in the 2016 Chinatown Concierge Lunch Tour. They were treated to a ride on the Chicago Water Taxi along the Chicago River to and from Chinatown's beautiful Ping Tom Memorial Park. The opening reception was held at the Heritage Museum of Asian Art with pastries donated by Chiu Quon Bakery. An hour-long walking tour of the nieghborhood provided important information for the concierges to bring back to their guests. Go 4 Food, Phoenix and Triple Crown restaurants served specialty dishes to all of our guests for lunch. The Chinatown Branch of the Chicago Public Library welcomed everyone to the closing reception with a tour of the facility.
DePaul University Discover Chicago Class Visit
On September 1st, as a part of DePaul University's Immersion Week, Associate Professor Matt Ragas and his DePaul Discover Chicago: "Chicago Business & Society" class experienced various Chicago neighborhoods and institutions including Chinatown. They visited local landmarks and organizations, dined at Lao Beijing and learned about the Chinatown Chamber of Commerce during a presentation and Q&A session at the Chamber.
Sichuan, China Delegation Visit to Chinatown Chamber
Representatives from Sichuan, China visited the Chamber and conversed with some members of the Chamber's Board of Directors about Chicago Chinatown, investment opportunities and economic development in the neighborhood. Their visit to Chciago and the Chamber was very productive.
Pedals & Petals Community Nature Day and Bike Ride
The Chamber participated at the Pedals & Petals event in Ping Tom Memorial Park on September 18th. Some of the days' activities included Community Planting of over 12,000 native plants, community organizations booth area, bike ride to the Burnham Wildlife Corridor and more. A perfect weather fun day was had by all!

Congratulations on the opening of Seafood Harbor located at 2131 S. Archer Avenue First Floor! The owners of Phoenix Restaurant, located on the second floor, expanded their restaurant offerings to include a variety of fresh seafood, lobsters, crabs and more which customers can make their choices from a wall of fish tanks. Once chosen, your seafood item will be cooked to ourder. This Hong Kong style restaurant is open seven days a week from 8 am to 4 am.
Asian Pop-Up Cinema Announces Season III Film Lineup
Asian Pop-Up Cinema Season III launched on September 17, 2016 with the fascinating film "Sori: Voice From the Heart". Many exciting films will be screened through December including several Chicago premieres.will present twelve award-winning films, including nine Chicago premieres. Chinatown Community Vision Plan Receives Award from American Planning Association Illinois Chapter
The Chinatown Community Vision Plan was selected by the Illinois Chapter of the American Planning Association to receive this year's Strategic Plan award. The award is jointly credited to the Coalition for a Better Chinese American Community, 25th Ward Alderman Daniel Solis and Chicago Metropolitan Agency for Planning. The award was presented at the 2016 APA Illinois Conference Awards Ceremony on Sept 28th.
Wells-Wentworth Connector Improvement Project
At a press conference September 30, 2016, CDOT announced that Phase 1 of the Wells-Wentworth Connector Improvement Project is now underway. When completed, this project will greatly improve economic opportunities, direct road, transit and bicycle access and enhance pedestrian safety in Chinatown for residents and visitors in the neighborhood.

Chinese-American Museum of Chicago – Migratory Bird Treaty Centennial Celebration
Meet at Ping Tom Memorial Park located at 300 W. 19th Street on October 8th from 10:00 am – 11:30 pm for a bird walk along the Chicago River. This free event is hosted by Audubon Great Lakes and Chinese-American Museum of Chicago. Spend the day listening to traditional Chinese instruments that mimic sounds of nature and learn about birds and nature in the Chinese culture. Adults and families are welcome.
9th District CAPS Meetings Schedule
The 9th District Chicago Police Department Beat 914 CAPS Meetings are held every 4th Wednesday of the month at the Chinatown Library located at 2100 S. Wentworth from 6:30 pm – 7:30 pm. You are encouraged to attend to meet your beat officers, discuss problems and crime conditions and learn crime fighting strategies.
