Summer is here and there are many reasons to visit Chicago’s Chinatown! The 2016 Chicago Dragon Boat Race for Literacy was a smashing success!  The Chinatown Summer Fair is only a few weeks away.  There are lots of activities scheduled for Ping Tom Memorial Park. The Chicago Water Taxi will be adding a new boat on the route to Chinatown with several scheduled stops daily. Visit https://www.chicagowatertaxi.com/. 2016 Chicago Dragon Boat Race for Literacy
Saturday, June 25, 2016 | Ping Tom Memorial Park 

The 16th Annual Chicago Dragon Boat Race for Literacy took place on Saturday, June 25th at Ping Tom Memorial Park in Chinatown.  The event attracted thousands of visitors to the park to watch thirty competitive dragon boat teams race on the south branch of the Chicago River in addition to children’s activities, vendor booths, fantastic performances and the free Chinatown Trolley. 

CONGRATULATIONS to our 2016 winners of the Chicago Dragon Boat Race for Literacy! First Place was awarded to HSBC Red Dragons; Second Place was Team United Sky Dragons GS and Third Place was Team Toast’em & the Pop-up Paddlers. All teams worked hard training for the event and gave it their best during the races.  They were ALL WINNERS!  View race times for all teams.

St. Barbara Elementary School

St. Barbara Elementary School was established in 1910 has provided quality education in the Bridgeport community for more than 100 years and has been a member of the Chicago Chinatown Chamber of Commerce since June 2016. Chinatown Summer Fair

The Chinatown Summer Fair will take place on Sunday July 17th from 10 am – 8 pm. Celebrating its 38th year, this event attracts over 40,000 visitors to Chinatown who will experience a lion dance, Chinese cultural performances and feature local artisans, vendor booths, food stations and more.  

Free Summer Events in Chinatown at Ping Tom Memorial Park

There will be plenty of reasons to visit Ping Tom Memorial Park this summer! You can watch Free Movies in the Park on July 15th at 8:30 pm featuring “Jurassic World”, watch a free performance of “Twelfth Night” on August 14th from 4 pm  during Shakespeare in the Park and more! 9th District CAPS Meetings Schedule

The 9th District Chicago Police Department Beat 914 CAPS Meetings are held every 4th Wednesday of the month at the Chinatown Library located at 2100 S. Wentworth from 6:30 pm – 7:30 pm.  You are encouraged to attend to meet your beat officers, discuss problems and crime conditions and learn crime fighting strategies.
