Welcome to Summer!

With the warm weather finally here, we can plan for many exciting outdoor activities in the Chinatown neighborhood.


Coming up tomorrow is the Chamber’s 15th Annual Dragon Boat Race for Literacy on Saturday June 27, 2015

Over 10,000 visitors and participants will travel to Chinatown by Water Taxi, CTA trains and buses, cars and bikes to picturesque Ping Tom Memorial Park at the Chicago River.  This FREE event will be a day of family fun beginning at 8 am with exciting dragon boat races, performances by Hōkūleʻa APA, Danzas Ceremoniales de Mexico sponsored by Urban Gateways, Flying Fairies Cultural & Arts Center and VanderCook College of Music. There will be fifteen vendor booths and KIND snacks will be giving away free KIND bars. Ride the FREE Trolley around Chinatown and find answers to our Scavenger Hunt questions to be eligible for prizes! Enjoy children’s arts & crafts, storytelling and the Museum of Science and Industry introducing Summer Brain Games. And don’t miss a special appearance by Chicago White Sox’s Southpaw! VanderCook College of Music FREE Summer Concert in Chinatown Square – June 30, 2015

The Chinatown Chamber of Commerce and Chinatown Parking Corporation will host a summer concert featuring musicians from the VanderCook College of Music in Chinatown Square on Tuesday June 30th.  More information to come!

Explore Chinatown!  One Hour Walking Tour

Are you new to Chicago, have visitors in town, or a local who has not visited Chicago’s Chinatown?  Well, you are in luck!  The Chinatown Chamber of Commerce’s walking tour is great way to start your cultural adventure.  Experience and learn about traditional Chinese culture from our local tour guide.  Tours are scheduled on Fridays at 10:00 AM. Taste of Chinatown Fundraising Fireworks Boat Cruise – Wednesday, August 5, 2015

SAVE THE DATE! Enjoy a summer evening cruise on a Wendella Boat on the waters of Lake Michigan while dining on a variety of regional Chinese cuisines. The evening cruise will begin at beautiful Ping Tom Memorial Park in Chicago Chinatown.  The boat will travel down the historic Chicago River providing close-up views of the city’s iconic skyscrapers.  It will then pass through the Chicago River locks onto Lake Michigan.  During the cruise, a sampling of various Chinese dishes will be served on board.  The evening ends with a front-row seat to view Navy Pier’s spectacular fireworks display before returning to Ping Tom Memorial Park.  More information to come!

Educational Program at the Chamber

Platinum Wealth Solutions LLC presented an educational program on May 28th.  The topics were How to Maximize Your Social Security and Small Business Law: Employee Programs.  The standing room only audience were provided valuable information about social security benefits and visa sponsorships.
