The summer is in full swing and so are activites in Chinatown! Check our calendar for upcoming events in Chinatown. Catching Pokémon on Pokémon GO is the most popular activity this summer, and did you know the Chinatown Square Mall Plaza is a Poké Stop? Come to Chinatown before or after events and be sure to collect your Poké balls and catch Pokémon! Meanwhile, be sure to dine at over 70 restaurants and bakeries, visit 60 shops, grocery stores, and herbal stores throughout Chinatown. Many restaurants are open late in the evening – perfect for a late night snack while catching Pokémon or after singing at one of the karaoke businesses!
There are many ways to get here! Both Red and Green Line CTA L train stations are located within walking distance of Chinatown. Several Divvy bike stations can be found in the neighborhood. Various CTA bus lines serve the neighborhood and the Chicago Water Taxi docks at Ping Tom Memorial Park. New water taxi schedules are available at the Chamber office. Stop by and pick one up!
Free Screening of My Life in China and Q&A discussion with Kenneth Eng, Director and Filmmaker
Plan to attend a free screening of My Life in China, a documentary film directed by Kenneth Eng on Saturday, July 30th from 4-6 pm at the Chinese-American Museum of Chicago or on Monday, August 1st from 6-8 pm at the Pui Tak Center. This film follows Kenneth Eng's journey with his father to the family's home village in Taishan. It also talks about the sacrifices made when his father left China. Many immigrants will be able to relate to this story. The director will be present after each screening for Q&A sessions. Due to limited seating at the museum, please RSVP for the July 30th showing at 312-949-1000 or firstname.lastname@example.org. No need to register for the second showing.

Free Summer Events in Chinatown at Ping Tom Memorial Park
It's been a busy summer at Ping Tom Memorial Park this year! The Chicago Philharmonic performed on June 18th, Movies in the Parks featuring Jurassic World was held on July 15th and the Yin He Dance Company (also featured at our 2016 Dragon Boat Race for Literacy) performed at the park on July 21st.
On August 5th from 6-8 pm, Tsukasa Taiko, the popular Midwest ensemble of Japanese Taiko drumming will be performing at the pavilion structure in the park. This group recently performed at the Chinatown Summer Fair. Learn more at http://www.chicagoparkdistrict.com/events/Tsukasa-Taiko-at-Ping-Tom/.
Put your dancing shoes on and head to Chinatown on August 11th and September 8th from 6-9 pm for Chicago Summer Dance in the Parks featuring Salsa, Mambo, Bachata and East Coast Swing at the Pavilion in Ping Tom Memorial Park! The Chicago Water Taxi will drop you off right at the pavilion to enjoy an evening of dance instruction followed by 2 hours of live music where patrons can show-off their newly learned dance moves. Chicago Shakespeare in the Parks is coming to Ping Tom Memorial Park on August 14th at 4 pm! This 75-minute family-friendly performance of TWELFTH NIGHT is a romantic comedy about mistaken identity and unlikely love. 009th District National Night Out
The 009th District Chicago Police Department will be hosting its annual National Night Out event on August 2, 2016 from 5:30 pm – 8:00 pm at Fuller Park located at 341 West 45th Street. Asian Health Coalition presents Play Street in the Armour Square Neighborhood 8/6, 8/20, 9/3
The Armour Square Play Street is a pop-up play space for local community residents located on West 24th Place between Princeton and Wentworth across from Sun Yat-Sen Playlot. 009th District CAPS Meetings Schedule
The 009th District Chicago Police Department Beat 914 CAPS Meetings are held every 4th Wednesday of the month at the Chinatown Library located at 2100 S. Wentworth from 6:30 pm – 7:30 pm. You are encouraged to attend to meet your beat officers, discuss problems and crime conditions and learn crime fighting strategies.
