Chinatown Chamber of Commerce 2017 Chinese Lunar New Year Dinner

Celebrate the Year of the Rooster with the Chinatown Chamber on Thursday, February 9, 2017 at Phoenix Restaurant located at 2131 S. Archer Ave., Chicago, IL 60616. There will be a traditional Lion Dance, US Postal Service Year of the Rooster Stamp dedication ceremony (stamps available for purchase onsite), Chinese singing performances, raffle draw with valuable prizes (must be present to win) and a delicious twelve-course meal featuring specially prepared traditional Chinese new year dishes including Braised Ham Hock, Walnut Shrimps, Steamed Fish, Lobster with Ginger & Scallion, Black Moss with Dry Oysters and more! US Postal Service 2017 Year of the Rooster Forever Stamp

The US Postal Service will be officially dedicating the 2017 Year of the Rooster Forever Stamp during the Chinatown Chamber's Lunar New Year Dinner on February 9th at the Phoenix Restaurant. See Press Release.

Chinese New Year Visits to the Chamber

The Chamber was honored to receive many guests at the Chamber office to celebrate the Chinese New Year. Chamber President Tony Shu, Esq., Chairman Mabel Moy and other Chamber Directors welcomed Consul General Hong Lei of the People’s Republic of China in Chicago along with several members of the Consulate and Chinatown community leaders.

President Tony Shu, Esq., Chairman Mabel Moy and members of the Chamber’s Board of Directors welcomed Director General Calvin Ho from the Taipei Economic and Cultural Office in Chicago with several of his staff and Chinatown Community leaders to usher in the new year.

Chinese New Year Concert 2017

The Chicago Public Library Chinatown Branch in partnership with American Music Festivals presented a Chinese New Year Concert at the Chinatown library featuring beautiful traditional and newly composed Chinese music performed by the Lincolnwood Chamber Orchestra directed by Philip Simmons. The Chinatown Chamber of Commerce was a sponsor of this event.

WLS-AM Radio 890 Celebrates the Chinese New Year

WLS-AM Radio 890 Emmy award winning talk show hosts, Marianne Murciano and Bob Sirott celebrated the Chinese New Year with Chamber Executive Director Sharyne Moy Tu for a live on-air taste testing of the popular dim sum dish, Siu Mai. The Bannos Brothers (Heaven on Seven Restaurants) joined them for the tasting and judging. Thank you to the restaurants who donated food for the show: Cai, Chiu Quon Bakery & Dim Sum, Phoenix, Triple Crown and Won Kow. There was a tie for the top pick. The winners were Cai and Chiu Quon Bakery & Dim Sum. Phoenix, Triple Crown and Won Kow were close behind with their delicious dishes. Try these restaurants when you are in Chinatown. There are many, many great restaurants, more than 70 which serve this dish and much more. Be sure to visit Chinatown during the lunar new year holidays! Come early before the Chinese New Year Parade on February 5th to dine, then stay to shop and watch the parade!


Chinese New Year Parade – Sunday, February 5, 2017 @ 1:00 pm

Don’t miss the Chinese New Year Parade in Chinatown on Sunday, February 5th which kicks off at 24th and Wentworth at 1:00 pm. 30,000 visitors descend upon Chinatown for the parade, lining up early to get a spot at the front line. There will be dragon and lion dancers, marching bands, floats, performers and much more! Look for the Chinatown Chamber float and wave to us! Come early and dine on dim sum or stay after the parade to eat at one of over 70 restaurants and bakeries. Be sure to visit the many shops featuring Chinese gifts, clothing, teas, herbal products and more. There are two parking lots located on Wentworth Avenue at Archer. Street parking will be very limited. You are encouraged to take public transportation. The CTA Red Line and Green Line stops within steps from Chinatown. See you there!

Asian Pop-Up Cinema – Sophia's Choice

Asian Pop-up Cinema will feature the Chicago Premier of The New Year's Eve of Old Lee on February 9th at 7:00 pm at the Claudia Cassidy Theatre in Chicago. Jackie Chan’s Long Yun Kung Fu Troupe Returns to Chicago by Popular Demand

On February 4, 2017 @ 7:30 pm, Jackie Chan’s Long Yun Kung Fu Troupe from Beijing will perform at the Auditorium Theatre of Roosevelt University. The show features performers personally selected and trained by Jackie Chan, famous martial artist, actor and film director. These performers combine elements of traditional kung fu, ballet and modern dance in the mesmerizing program 11 Warriors. Chinatown Chamber members and supporters receive 20% discount off tickets. City of Chicago Checkout Bag Tax

Starting February 1, 2017, the $0.07 Chicago Checkout Bag Tax will be collected on all disposable paper and plastic bags used in Chicago. The Chinatown Chamber of Commerce will be hosting a Chicago Business Tax workshop on Tuesday, February 21, 2017 at 2:00 pm which will cover details regarding the new Checkout Bag Tax. 9th District CAPS Meetings Schedule

The 9th District Chicago Police Department Beat 914 CAPS Meetings will be held every 4th Wednesday of the month at the Chinatown Library located at 2100 S. Wentworth from 6:30 pm – 7:30 pm. You are encouraged to attend to meet your beat officers, discuss problems and crime conditions and learn crime fighting strategies.

FREE Business Education Workshops This Week

The City of Chicago Department of Business Affairs & Consumer Protection (BACP) offers FREE business workshops every Wednesday and Friday at City Hall, on the 8th Floor in Room 805. This week's workshops cover City Inspections and Social Media Strategies. To register for a workshop call 312-744-2086. You also can register by emailing BACPoutreach@cityofchicago.org.
