It’s the beginning of a new year and we are excited about all the happenings planned for 2015!

February 19, 2015 marks the first day of the Lunar New Year, Year of the Ram 4713!  A city-wide celebration for the New Year is planned throughout February.  Chicago Chinatown Chamber of Commerce has many activities planned to celebrate the New Year!  Be sure to read about them below and join us!


Lunar New Year Celebrations

The City of Chicago will be host to many different Lunar New Year events throughout the city during the month of February.  View some of them at the Choose Chicago website and on our website calendar page.

Chicago Chinatown Chamber of Commerce Lunar New Year Dinner

Join the Chicago Chinatown Chamber of Commerce in celebrating the Chinese New Year at its annual Lunar New Year Dinner on Thursday February 26, 2015 at 6 pm at Ming Hin Restaurant. A lion dance will usher in the Year of the Ram and traditional Chinese dishes will be specially prepared for the event including New Year dumplings, Peking Duck, Stewed Black Chicken Soup with Chinese Herbs, Steamed Red Grouper Fish and more!  Chances to win “Lai See”/Red Envelope and other raffle prizes. Dress in Chinese apparel or in Red!  Tickets available here

Lunar New Year Parade

The Chinatown Lunar New Year Parade will kick off at 1:00 pm on Sunday February 22, 2015.  Come early to dine at one of the many restaurants in the Chinatown area serving dim sum and other Chinese specialties.  Then, line up along Wentworth Ave. to see a 100 ft. dragon, beautiful floats, dancing lions, exciting marching bands, and other parade units.  Visit the many shops, stores and bakeries along Wentworth Ave, Cermak Road, Archer Ave. and in Chinatown Square.   

Can’t make it to the parade this year? No problem! The Chinatown Chamber of Commerce and Georama will be bringing you a live stream of the parade. Georama’s vicarious experiences technology will allow you to explore the parade in real-time via an experienced guide, who you will be able to interact with to ask questions and make suggestions. More details on where to watch coming soon!

U.S. Post Office Chinese New Year Stamp Unveiling

The Chinatown Chamber of Commerce will be hosting the unveiling of the U.S. Post Office’s 2015 Chinese New Year Stamp on February 13th.  More to come…

Navy Pier IMAX presents National Geographic’s Pandas: The Journey Home

The Chicago Chinatown Chamber of Commerce is partnering with Navy Pier IMAX to offer an exclusive opportunity to attend one of two free advanced screenings of National Geographic’s Pandas: The Journey Home at Navy Pier’s IMAX Theatre.  The film is set to be released on February 13th. However, as a supporter of the Chicago Chinatown Chamber of Commerce, you get a chance to see it before the public does! Pandas: The Journey Home is an extraordinary film of how pandas live and the astonishing measures conservationists are taking to ensure their future.  To sign up, click on either Saturday February 7, 2015 or Sunday February 8, 2015, and follow the directions on how to reserve your tickets.

Miss Chinese International Pageant – Hong Kong

Jennifer Zhang, Miss Friendship Ambassador 2015, represented the Chicago Chinatown Chamber of Commerce at the Miss Chinese International Pageant in Hong Kong on January 25, 2015.  It was very competitive with eighteen beautiful contestants from all over the world.  Unfortunately, Ms. Zhang did not win, however, she was a wonderful representative of the Chamber and Chicago.  


New ATM Location at US Bank Chinatown Branch 2263 S. Wentworth

The US Bank, located at 2263 S. Wentworth has added a new ATM.  In addition to monetary transactions, you will also be able to purchase postal stamps from the ATM.  For more information, call 312-791-1950.

Community Forum – Chinatown Branch Library Public Artwork Project
A community forum will be held Wednesday January 28th at 6:00 pm at the Chinatown Branch Library located at 2353 S. Wentworth Ave. The proposed finalist for the new library's public artwork project will be announced.  Following this forum, the commissioning process will then formally begin.

Sounds of China – February 15, 2015

The Chicago Symphony Orchestra will present its first Chinese New Year Concert at The Symphony Center on Sunday, February 15, 2015 at 3 pm.  Sounds of China will feature virtuoso soloists from the world-renowned National Chinese Traditional Orchestra and the Chicago Symphony Orchestra.
