The Year of the Rooster was ushered in with many different festivities throughout the month. Thousands of visitors traveled to Chinatown to watch the Chinese Lunar New Year Parade on a warm and beautiful February day. Quite a contrast to last years' snowstorm! Chinatown and the City of Chicago celebrated in grand style!
Chinatown Business Luncheon featuring David Whitaker, President and CEO Choose Chicago
On Tuesday March 7th, the Chamber will be hosting its next Chinatown Business Luncheon featuring David Whitaker, President and CEO Choose Chicago at Evergreen Restaurant located at 2411 South Wentworth Avenue. Chicago Business Tax Workshop
The Chinatown Chamber hosted a Chicago Business Tax Workshop in partnership with the City of Chicago's Department of Finance on February 21, 2017. Attendees learned about the Checkout Bag Tax which became effective February 1, 2017, in addition to the City's Use and Restaurant taxes. Chicago Chinatown Chamber of Commerce 2017 Chinese Lunar New Year Dinner
The Chamber's Lunar New Year Dinner was held on February 9th at the Phoenix Restaurant. The event attracted over 270 attendees from the Chicagoland area, Tennessee, Indiana, Iowa and China! Double-lions danced throughout the restaurant greeting the crowd and bringing good fortune to all. We were honored to have Governor Bruce Rauner, Cook County President Tony Preckwinkle, Illinois State Treasurer Michael Frerichs, Illinois State Representative 2nd District Theresa Mah, in addition to many more special guests attend the dinner. David Clark from the US Postal Service officially dedicated the 2017 Lunar New Year of the Rooster Stamp. A twelve-course traditional Chinese New Year feast was specially prepared by Phoenix chefs and award winning singers Yiji Zhang and Peiyuan Yu performed Chinese and English tunes.

2017 Chinese Lunar New Year Parade – Sunday February 5, 2017
Thousands of visitors descended upon Chinatown to celebrate the Year of the Rooster. There were firecrackers, dragons and lions dancing, marching bands, beautiful floats, martial arts demonstrations, dancers and even the Shannon Rovers! View video of the parade.

AT&T Flagship Store Celebrated Chinese Lunar New Year
Chamber member AT&T hosted a full day of activities at its Flagship Store located at 600 N. Michigan Avenue celebrating the Chinese Lunar New Year Lantern Festival. Children as well as adults enjoyed designing their own Chinese lanterns and practicing calligraphy. The Chinatown Dragons performed lion dances throughout the day as well as traditional Chinese dancing by the Yin He Dance Company and musical performances by Andy Lin. Asian Pop-Up Cinema announces its Season IV Schedule
Asian Pop-Up Cinema begins Season IV on March 1st with its Opening Night feature film Survival Family at 7:00 pm at AMC River East 21. Director Shinobu Yaguchi will be in attendance participating in "Conversation with the Director" segment moderated by Mark Schilling, film critic from the Japan Times Tokyo and expert in Japanese cinema. 9th District CAPS Meetings Schedule
The 9th District Chicago Police Department Beat 914 CAPS Meetings will be held every 4th Wednesday of the month at the Chinatown Library located at 2100 S. Wetnworth from 6:30 pm – 7:30 pm. You are encouraged to attend to meet your beat officers, discuss problems and crime conditions and learn crime fighting strategies.
