HAPPY LUNAR NEW YEAR – YEAR OF THE RAM 4713!
Chicago Chinatown Chamber of Commerce began the Lunar New Year of the Ram with plethora of activities!
U.S. Postal Service Lunar New Year of the Ram Forever Stamp Dedication
The Chinatown Chamber of Commerce hosted the dedication of the US Postal Service’s 2015 Lunar New Year of the Ram Forever Stamp on February 13th. Tangela Bush, Acting Chicago Postmaster, Mark Reynolds and Robin Anderson from the US Postal Service along with Man Men Lee, 25th Ward Legislative Aid, Darryl Tom, Chamber President, Sharyne Moy Tu, Chamber Executive Director and Jessica Ou, 2014 Miss Friendship Ambassador unveiled the new stamp. The eighth stamp in a series of lunar New Year stamps features a “Tray of Togetherness” which is filled with dried fruits, candies and other treats to provide a sweet beginning to the New Year. Stamps are available for purchase at usps.com/stamps and at Post Offices nationwide.
WGN Radio 720 AM Lunar New Year Spring Roll Tasting
On February 19th, Sharyne Moy Tu, Executive Director, appeared on the Sirott & Murciano Show on WGN Radio 720 AM for the second Lunar New Year tasting event live on air. This year, spring rolls were the food item to taste. Five member restaurants participated (Evergreen, Emperor’s Choice, Ming Hin Cuisine, Phoenix and Won Kow). Bob Sirott, Marianne Murciano and Kevin Pang, food critic with the Chicago Tribune, blind tasted each of five spring rolls. It was a difficult decision to choose their favorites, they were all very good. The final results were: #1 Ming Hin Cuisine, #2 Phoenix Restaurant and #3 Won Kow. Listen to the broadcast online. Chinatown Lunar New Year Parade
The Chinatown Lunar New Year Parade took place on Sunday February 22nd on Wentworth Avenue. Though it was a chilly day, it didn’t stop thousands of visitors from coming to Chinatown to watch the parade which hosted 100 foot dragons, dancing lions, floats, marching units, bands and more! For those that did not want to brave the cold temperatures, Chinatown Chamber of Commerce partnered with Georama to host live streaming of the parade from the Chamber website. Lunar New Year Dinner Tickets Available
It’s not too late to purchase tickets for the Chicago Chinatown Chamber of Commerce Lunar New Year Dinner on Thursday February 26, 2015 at 6:00 pm! Archer Ave. A lion dance will usher in the Year of the Ram and traditional Chinese dishes will be specially prepared for the event including New Year dumplings, Peking Duck, Stewed Black Chicken Soup with Chinese Herbs, Steamed Fish and more! Navy Pier IMAX presents National Geographic’s Pandas: The Journey Home
The Chicago Chinatown Chamber of Commerce partnered with Navy Pier IMAX Theatre to offer an exclusive opportunity for its supporters to attend a free advanced screening of Geographic’s Pandas: The Journey Home at Navy Pier’s IMAX Theatre. Many supporters attended the screening and enjoyed the 3D film which is now open to the public at Navy Pier. NBC’s Chicago PD is looking for talented Asian American living in the Chicagoland area to be background extras in an upcoming episode to be filmed in Chinatown in March. There will be an open casting call at the Chicago Chinatown Chamber of Commerce located at 2169B S.
