HAPPY NEW YEAR!
As 2016 comes to an end, we look back at a year filled with many exciting events and activities throughout our neighborhood. Chicago's Chinatown continues to be viewed as one of the Chinatowns in the country which continues to expand and develop. We look foward to this continuing in 2017 and bringing even more events throughout the year!
Have a safe and Happy New Year Eve! Remember, Don't Drink and Drive. The CTA will offer free bus and train rides on New Year's Eve. The free rides will run from 10:00 PM on December 31st until 4:00 AM on January 1st.
Chinatown Business Luncheon
The Chamber hosted a Chinatown Business Luncheon on December 15th and was honored to have Dr. Theresa Mah, newly elected State Representative 2nd District Illinois as our featured speaker. Dr. Mah spoke on Diversified Assets Developing Social, Cultural and Political Capital in Immigrant Communities. The Chamber also presented Dragon Boat Race for Literacy donations to local schools and organizations to support their literacy programs John C. Haines Elementary School, Robert Healy Elementary School, Project VISION, Pui Tak Christian School, Mark Sheridan Math & Science Academy, SitStayRead, St. Therese Chinese Catholic School and James Ward Elementary School.

Chinese Lunar New Year – Year of the Rooster
The Chinese Lunar New Year – Year of the Rooster takes place on January 28, 2017. The Chamber has compiled a list of exciting activities happening throughout the city. View the list at https://chicagochinatown.org/lny2017/. There will be more events added as we learn about them. Be sure to check out our website and social media pages frequently! Some of the events include the Chamber's Lunar New Year Dinner on February 9th, 2017, Chinatown Lunar New Year Parade on February 5th, 2017, Chinese New Year Dumpling Making Dinner, Chinese New Year Concert at the Chinatown Library and more!
Chicago Chinatown Chamber of Commerce 2017 Lunar New Year Dinner | February 9, 2017
Chicago Chinatown Chamber of Commerce will host its 2017 Lunar New Year Dinner – Year of the Rooster at Phoenix Restaurant located 2131 S. Archer Ave., Chicago, IL 60616. Traditional New Year dishes will be served at the dinner. The evening starts off with a traditional lion dance, then the US Postal Service will dedicate its 2017 Lunar New Year of the Rooster Stamp. There will be a raffle draw with "Lai See" (Red Envelope) prizes, entertainment and more. Tickets are $75 per person and available online at http://www.brownpapertickets.com/event/2736154. Shovel Your Sidewalks!
City of Chicago ordinance requires homeowners and business owners to shovel the sidewalks adjacent to their property. Not only is it a neighborly thing to do, failure to do so can result in a fine up to $500.
