Chicago Water Taxi Weekend Service to Chinatown Begins on April 18th

15th Annual Dragon Boat Race for Literacy

SAVE THE DATE! The 15th Annual Dragon Boat Race for Literacy takes place on Saturday, June 27, 2015 in Ping Tom Memorial Park.  This event brings over 10,000 visitors to Chinatown for a day of family fun watching exciting dragon boat races, riding the FREE Trolley around Chinatown, participating in children’s activities and other fun happenings!  Dragon Boat Team spots are still available.  Sponsorship and Vendor opportunities are also available.  For more info or to sign up visit our website at https://chicagochinatown.org/dragon-boat/ or call 312-326-5320.

Explore Chinatown!  One Hour Walking Tour

Are you new to Chicago, have visitors in town, or a local who has not visited Chicago’s Chinatown?  Well, you are in luck!  The Chinatown Chamber of Commerce’s walking tour is great way to start your cultural adventure.  Experience and learn about traditional Chinese culture from our local tour guide.  Tours are scheduled on Fridays at 10 am beginning May 1st.  Cost per person is $10. Chinese Language Tourist Map of Chicago and Chinatown

The Chinatown Chamber of Commerce in partnership with MyNais LLP is producing a Chinese Language Tourist Map of Chicago and Chinatown.  This invaluable map will assist Chinese visitors with navigating the various landmarks, shopping areas and tourist sites in Chicago and Chinatown.  Maps will be available at Choose Chicago Visitor Centers, Navy Pier, local hotels in downtown and the Magnificent Mile and at the Chinatown Chamber of Commerce office by May 1st.  Be sure to pick one up!

2015 Chinatown Chamber of Commerce Lunar New Year Dinner

Thank you to Choose Chicago our event’s Platinum Sponsor, our raffle and goodie bag donors and to everyone who attended our Lunar New Year Dinner on February 26th at Ming Hin restaurant!  A double-lion dance kicked off the evening to celebrate the Year of the Ram.  Gov. Bruce Rauner greeted guests and spoke of his commitment to the Chinatown community.  Other special guests included Illinois State Comptroller Leslie Geissler Munger, Emily Berman from the Mayor’s Office, and 25th Ward Ald. Daniel Solis.  A multi-course meal featuring specially prepared dishes for the Lunar New Year were served.  Check out our photo gallery!


NBC 5 – Chicago PD in Chinatown

On February 25th, the Chinatown Chamber of Commerce hosted the Chicago PD Casting Call for casting extras.  Over one hundred people showed up, completing applications for this exciting opportunity.  Filming in Chinatown took place on March 3rd and this episode titled “The Three G’s” was aired on April 8th.  If you didn’t get a chance to see Chinatown featured on the show, you can watch the full episode on line at http://www.nbc.com/chicago-pd/episode-guide/season-2/the-three-gs/219.

Illinois State University Class Visit to the Chamber

Professor John Kostelnick from Illinois State University and his students from the class titled “The Geography of Chicago” visited the Chamber office on March 11th.  Their trip to Chicago included visits to various neighborhoods in the city including Chinatown.  They learned about the history of Chinatown, its past, present and future.  They visited local landmarks, Ping Tom Memorial Park and dined at a local restaurant.  The students were fascinated with what they learned and are looking forward to coming back for the 15th Annual Dragon Boat Race for Literacy!

Free Responsible Beverage Server Training Classes

Effective July 1, 2015, new regulations will take effect impacting all beverage alcohol sellers as well as Cook County bars and restaurants.
