Chinatown Chamber hosted it’s 2017 Lunar New Year Dinner on February 9th at the Phoenix Restaurant to celebrate the Year of the Rooster. Over 270 guests enjoyed a festive evening which was kicked off with a Double-Lion Dance by the Chinatown Dragons Association throughout the restaurant.
Thank you to our generous event sponsors who made this event possible: Platinum Sponsors – Fashion Outlets of Chicago and Rivers Casino, Gold Sponsors: AT&T and Lakeside Bank. And a special thank you to our In-Kind Sponsor, Moody Tongue Brewing Company who generously donated two of their amazing products – Applewood Gold and Sliced Nectarine IPA. Be sure to try them out. They pair very well with Chinese food!
Chamber President Tony Shu, Esq and Chairman Mabel Moy greeted guests along with several Board of Director members. The Chamber was honored to have many special guests attend including Governor Bruce Rauner, Secretary of State Jesse White, IL State Treasurer Michael Frerichs, Cook County President Toni Preckwinkle, IL State Representative 2nd District Theresa Mah, Commissioner Metropolitan Water Reclamation District Josina Morita and representatives from various offices throughout the state, county, and city and representatives from the Consulate General Office of Peoples Republic of China and Taipei Economic and Cultural Office in Chicago. David Clark from the US Postal Service officiated the official dedication of the 2017 Lunar New Year of the Rooster Stamp. A twelve-course traditional Chinese new year feast was specially prepared by Phoenix chefs. Award winning singers Yiji Zhang and Peiyuan Yu performed Chinese and English songs and valuable raffle and silent auctions items including Chicago Water Taxi, Garrett Popcorn and Hugo’s Frog Bar and Chop House Des Plaines delighted the winners. Thank you to our raffle and gift bag donors! February 16, 2018 marks the beginning of the Year of the Dog. Be sure to celebrate with us next year!
